Yoga teaches that everything is connected. Even subtle thoughts, words, and action can have their effects. That being true, mudras – gestures of the hands done with specific intention and purpose – can have a big effect on one’s state of being. Mudras work by directing the body’s natural energy flow in a particular way.
One is the simplest and most essential mudras is Gyan Mudra. Touch the tips of the index finger and thumb together to bring the mind to a state of knowledge, awareness, and wisdom. Perfect as an aid for meditation, Gyan Mudra balances the wisdom of Jupiter (represented by the index finger) with the ego (represented by the thumb).
